Kon Ka Kinh National Park is located in the northeast of Gia Lai province, about 50km from Pleiku city, bordering Kon Tum province and Dak Roong commune, KBang district (Gia Lai) to the north; Ha Ra commune, AYun commune and Dak Jo Ta commune, Mang Yang district to the south; Dak Roong commune, K Rong commune and Lo Ku commune, KBang district to the east and Ha Dong commune, Dak Doa district (Gia Lai) to the west.

In 1986, Kon Ka Kinh National Park (area of ​​about 28,000ha) was included in the list of Special-use Forests to conserve subtropical highland forests with gymnosperm species. In 1999, the Forest Inventory and Planning Institute (FIPI) in collaboration with BirdLife International developed an investment project to establish Kon Ka Kinh Nature Reserve and this project was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the People's Committee of Gia Lai province. On November 25, 2002, Kon Ka Kinh Nature Reserve was officially converted into Kon Ka Kinh National Park with an area of ​​41,780ha according to Decision No. 167/2002/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister.

Through the meeting of Ministers on natural resources and environment held in Iagon (Myanmar) on December 18, 2003, Kon Ka Kinh National Park was recognized as an ASEAN heritage park.

Kon Ka Kinh National Park is mainly primary forest with the main forest vegetation types including: evergreen closed forest, low mountain subtropical humid rain forest and mixed closed forest with coniferous and broadleaf, containing a lot of po mu; this forest type is only found in Kon Ka Kinh National Park.

Due to the diverse characteristics of terrain, climate and some other factors forming the forest, Kon Ka Kinh National Park has a very rich forest flora; This is the convergence point of plant flows such as: Plant flows belonging to the Northern Vietnam flora including species of legumes, mulberries, custard apples, ragweed, castor oil and magnolias... Plant flows belonging to the Yunnan - Guizhou flora and the foot of the Himalayas including coniferous species of the gymnosperm subphylum such as: pine, false huangdan, kim giao, po mu... Plant flows belonging to the Malaysia - Indonesia flora including species of dipterocarpaceae such as: chò chai, chò đen, chò chỉ, cam. Plant flows from India - Myanmar including some species of the cypress family such as: choai; family of purple such as: bang lang guava... Besides, there are also some endemic species such as: central beetle, du mooc, star fruit flower, red-veined orchid, red go, longong hiep, trac, thong dalat, xoay, song bot and some other rare species listed in the Vietnam and world red books. In addition to such a rich forest flora, the Park also has a forest fauna endemic to both Vietnam and Indochina, including: 5 large mammal species such as: red-cheeked gibbon, grey-shanked douc langur, tiger, Truong Son muntjac and large muntjac. 7 bird species such as: black-headed babbler, long-billed babbler, kon ka kinh babbler - a species newly discovered for science in the last 30 years in Asia, grey-headed babbler, yellow-billed tree-climber, striped pheasant and red-bottomed monk. 4 species of reptiles and amphibians: net lizard, red-tailed lizard, Sapa monkey, rough-necked frog.

In addition to the above endemic species; the fauna and flora of Kon Ka Kinh National Park also has about 38 other rare species; valuable for gene conservation, scientific research and listed in both the Vietnam and the world Red Books.

In addition to the diversity and richness of the forest fauna and flora; Kon Ka Kinh National Park also plays an important role in protecting the watershed of major rivers such as the Ba River and the Dak Pne River, providing irrigation water for thousands of hectares of coffee, pepper, agricultural land and providing domestic water for districts of Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces. Furthermore, the west of the National Park is part of the watershed of the Ya Ly Hydropower Plant.

Standing on the top of Kon Ka Kinh (1,748m high) looking down, visitors can feel the majesty of the Truong Son mountains and forests, enjoy the fresh, cool air and the seemingly endless beauty of the landscape before their eyes: Mountains covered with clouds, waterfalls pouring down from above, creating white foam and the chirping of birds calling each other...

Coming to Kon Ka Kinh means visitors come to the villages of the Central Highlands ethnic minorities, where visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of festivals such as: grave-leaving ceremony, gong festival, wedding ceremony, buffalo stabbing ceremony...

Kon Ka Kinh National Park is not only known as a priority area for biodiversity conservation in Vietnam, in the region and internationally, but in the near future, it will also become an eco-tourism destination, attracting visitors to come here to rest, recuperate and do scientific research.
